'Bachelor' Ben Flajnik & Jennifer Love Hewitt: Why JLove Dodged a Bullet

Jennifer Love Hewitt is just one of many ladies about to get reject by new "Bachelor" Ben.

Upcoming "Bachelor" Ben Flajnik tells everyone that Jennifer Love Hewitt had pursued him and that he had turned her down.

As Ben explained during a conference call, "She reached out and wanted to come up to the winery, which she did. We went out to dinner and just kind of chatted about life and the experience. She's a nice girl, but I wasn't - it was right in the middle of the time when I was deciding to be the Bachelor. When this is all said and done, ending up with a Hollywood celebrity is not something that I want."

Although I can't blame Ben, I'm thinking JLove actually dodged a bullet on this one! Here are a few reasons why I think JLove is better off.

1. The "Bennifer" ship has sailed.

Celebrity watchers endured years of Bennifer drama with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez (though he seems to be doing better with Jennifer Garner). Still, I'm thinking it's time to put that portmanteau to rest for good.

2. Ben could have handled the JLove questions with a little more class.

He didn't exactly trash her, but he didn't have to tell everyone that he turned her down. There's no need to embarrass her that way! He could have just politely mentioned that they went on one date, but that it didn't go any further.

3. Ben was probably more interested in the money and fame that comes with the "Bachelor" franchise.

How convenient that their date had taken place while he was deciding whether or not to become the next "Bachelor." What's he going to choose? A likely sho! rt-term romance with a hot celebrity, or a huge paycheck, a chance to be on television for 8 weeks, and a chance to hook up with 25 women?

4. The "Bachelor" franchise has a poor record of relationship success.

It's a bit ironic that Ben had reservations about dating a Hollywood celebrity because the "Bachelor" franchise has an even worse record of relationship longevity than Hollywood.

5. Associating with a reality star could tank JLove's career.

You know a celebrity's career is tanking when they're dating reality stars or competing on reality shows (Maureen McCormick, anyone?) It's one thing for an aspiring wannabe to use reality TV as a jumping-off platform, but JLove has already had a great career. By many conventional standards, she would actually be out of Ben's league.

Do you think JLove dodged a bullet? Or did Ben make a wise decision?
